  • Unwavering Courage: Self-Confidence in Leadership

When we think of leaders, self-confidence often comes to mind. It is one of the core characteristics a great leader must possess. To lead others effectively, leaders first need to know themselves. Those who understand who they are project a sense of alignment and purpose—an energy that others naturally respond to and draw from. This is closely connected to the idea of choosing to live an authentic life, where actions and values are aligned.

People pay attention to individuals who know what they want and treat others with respect. A self-confident leader demonstrates consistency in how they show up, whether in team meetings, peer discussions, or conversations with their superiors. Their behaviour does not shift depending on who they are speaking to. A leader’s leadership image is built through this consistency, shaping how others perceive and respond to them. They carry an aura that inspires others to follow, not through force, but through example.

Self-confidence, however, should never be confused with arrogance. A confident leader knows when they do not have the answer. They are willing to admit mistakes, give credit where it is due, and recognize that they are not the smartest person in the room. They value learning opportunities and remain humble, always focused on bringing out the best in those around them. This mindset is central to being a great coach, where leadership is measured by how others grow.

A lack of self-confidence, on the other hand, makes it difficult for leaders to communicate their message clearly. When someone struggles to articulate their vision, it becomes challenging to inspire others to follow. Over time, trust erodes—people begin to doubt the leader’s ability to make decisions in the team’s best interest or support their growth and development.

Wherever we are in life—personally or professionally—we all hold some degree of leadership capacity. Leadership is not defined by a title, but by our actions. In this sense, confidence matters. People listen to those who believe in themselves.

7 Ways I Feel Good About Myself and How You Can Too

Feeling good about yourself isn’t about accolades or recognition—it’s about the little habits and choices you make every day.

I spend eight hours a day in a work environment, and one thing that matters to me is arriving early to meetings and finishing them on time. I value my time and the time of others. This shows respect—for myself and my colleagues. I also respect them by supporting their work and giving my full attention when they present. When I am of service to others and fully invested, I feel good about myself.

I give 100% to everything I do. If I can’t, that’s a signal I’m doing too much and need to reprioritize my objectives. Being all in on a project is gratifying, no matter my role—whether I’m leading, formatting, or simply writing the introduction. It doesn’t matter if no one notices or praises my work. What matters is knowing I gave my best. That’s success for me, and it makes me feel good about myself.

I try to see life with the glass half full. I’m optimistic. I’m positive. Not everything will go according to plan, and sometimes things go terribly wrong—and that’s okay. That’s life. I learn from setbacks by asking how they could be avoided in the future. I don’t dwell on problems; I look for solutions. I ask myself, “Can I do something about this?” If not, I move on. If yes, I act. Learning from mistakes and moving forward makes me feel good about myself.

I also practice gratitude. Every day, I set a reminder to ask myself what I’m grateful for. This keeps my life in perspective, adds positivity, and reminds me of what truly matters. Being grateful for what I already have makes me feel good about myself.

I have passion for my work. I’m excited about what I do and enjoy using my imagination to create. Of course, there are tasks I don’t enjoy, but they’re minimal and manageable. Focusing on the work that excites me makes me feel good about myself.

Finally, I listen to feedback. I don’t know everything, and I don’t want to. I love learning and improving. I welcome feedback with humility, listen carefully, and ask questions for clarity. Striving to be better than I was yesterday begins with accepting others’ perspectives. Listening, learning, and growing every day makes me feel good about myself.

There are many ways to feel good about yourself. These are mine. What are yours?

    Take care.

  • Spread the love

    Spread the love

It’s important to be yourself and do the things you enjoy. Don’t be afraid of being judged by others. Those who judge often lack confidence and wish they had the courage to do what you’re doing. Choosing to live authentically not only brings you closer to yourself, but it also gives others permission to do the same — a theme I explore more deeply in living an authentic life.

Even better, the people around you may absorb your energy. It can boost their confidence and encourage them to pursue what they love but are too scared or shy to go after. Without realizing it, you might inspire someone simply by leading by example — becoming that quiet influence, that red thread others can follow.

You might inspire someone to follow a dream or take action on something they’ve been putting off for weeks, months, or even years. Knowing you could change someone’s life for the better simply by doing what you love — that’s a powerful feeling.

Go out there and do something you love. Do something that puts a smile on your face. Do something good for someone else. If you’ve been waiting for the right moment to start, remember — there is no better time than now.

It can be as simple as smiling at the person walking by, sitting next to you on the bus, or at the restaurant. Hug your loved ones. Hug a stranger. Call a friend you haven’t spoken to in a while. Dance in the rain. Sing as loud as you can. Start that project. Apply for that job. Go play outside and let the kid in you come out.

Be you. There is only one of you on this earth. Let the world see you as you are — and shine bright, my friend.

    Spread the love.

    Take care.
