I spend 8 hours in a work environment and one thing that is important to me is arriving early to meetings and finishing meetings on time. I value my time and the time of others. This shows respect for myself and others. I respect my colleagues by supporting them and giving my undivided attention when they present their work. When I am of service to my colleagues and invested, I feel good about myself.
I give 100% with everything that I do. If I can’t give 100%, that signals I am doing too much and I need to reprioritize my objectives. Being all in on a project is gratifying regardless of my part in the project. Being the lead, formatting, writing the intro, whatever it is, large or small, I do the job to the best of my abilities. It does not matter if no one will notice or praise my work. I know I did everything I could, and that’s a success for me. I feel good about myself when I know I did everything I could.
I am a person with the glass half full. I am optimistic. I am positive. Not everything will go according to plan and there are things that will go terribly wrong. That’s okay. That’s part of life. I learn from it and manage these setbacks by reviewing how could this be avoided in the future. I seek solutions rather than dwelling on problems. I see the world as possibilities. I do not let the problem fester. I ask myself, “Can I do something about it?”. If not, move on, if so, find a solution. I learn from my mistakes and move on. I feel good about myself when I am optimistic and find solutions to problem.
I have an attitude of gratitude. I have a daily reminder asking what I am grateful for today. It puts what I have into perspective. It allows me to add some positivity in my life and shine some light on what is truly important to me. Being grateful for the things that I have currently in my life makes me feel good about myself.
I have passion. I’m excited about the work that I do. I get to create and work with my imagination most of the time. Unfortunately, there are some things I don’t enjoy but I believe that’s part of every job. The unenjoyable parts of my daily work are minimal and tolerable. Doing work that I am excited about makes me feel good about myself.
I listen to feedback. I don’t know everything nor do I want to. I enjoy learning new things and want to get better. I am humble and receive feedback graciously. Listening carefully to what the others are saying and asking question where I need clarification. I want to be better than what I was yesterday and that starts by accepting feedback. Listening to others feedback and getting better everyday makes me feel good about myself.
There are multiple ways to feel good about yourself. What are yours?
Take care.
